v2.6.0
Dear builders, architects, and others,
It’s that time of year again that I tell you about the cool new things we’re shipping. First of all, thank you for all the constant feedback you’re sending me. Please keep doing so either via DM or the feedback form in the app settings (there you even get XP for submitting). To honor this, I wanted to highlight a few of the changes in this update that were brought to my attention by you.
The most noticeable will be the screw board. While many changes to it already are applied in the backend to make it as instant as we can, I added a lot more animations and cute interactions that highlight this feel of speed. Like yesterday, I had a head-to-head competition with @dasklaerchen where we were constantly overtaking each other. With this update, tbh, I got myself a bit addicted again as well (so maybe fewer updates, but more screws - let’s hope not). This change was inspired by feedback from @atomverband and probably in parts also by @bg147 and more probably even more.
Thanks to @lukes, you can now withdraw your vote from a poll and vote again. Thanks to @mascharoth, you can now view who has voted for what (I needed to know who thought I was schlau, frech, or lieb hahah).
Many of you have reported smaller issues, a few quirks, and whatnot. I tried to address them all - additionally, we (Codex and me) tried to resolve all reports on our error monitoring about hangs and freezes, so you might see performance improvements and generally more stable behaviour.
And a final quick round:
Photos and videos you take with the app for posts are now also saved to your gallery, so you never miss the precious moments,
to never miss the most precious moments: you will now see an in-feed banner for shows happening tonight near you. And if you attend a gig and forgot to set an alarm for when b90 is playing, you now get a dynamic island and live activity when they are playing.
I tried to clean up the activity view a bit more, as it currently was hard to parse because of all the like activities. I also tried to remove as many duplicate entries and issues there as well. It should feel a lot more useful now.
Some of you reported issues with some notifications not being sent. I hope most of these are resolved now. The large-scale rearchitecting of the backend was one of the biggest parts of this release. Things should be more stable, and notifications faster, especially at peak-time loads. We plan to migrate more and more services to this new architecture with time and iron out the kinks. So be patient and please tell me everything that seems to be wrong or unexpected.
Lastly: I have dropped support of iOS 17 with v2.5.1 - sadly supporting this version of iOS became quite painful and required me very often to use old system APIs in conjunction with new ones, which was especially limiting in app layouts and navigation. Dropping this allowed me to make the codebase a lot cleaner and better to maintain, which increases quality for everyone. Since I rarely have the time to explicitly test on iOS 17 in the past, I more and more often shipped fatal bugs that bricked the app completely. Since now also nobody of my internal tester group is working with this version, I just cannot safely guarantee that new releases will work properly. I would be very happy to not lose you guys, however. The last update expires in around 6-8 weeks. So if you can, please update your device to iOS 18 or higher! :)
Thanks again and much love
